synopsis
The train. We're waiting for it. We travel with it. We complain about it. Because the train is late, or too full or too expensive. With a million travelers a day, every Dutch person knows the NS. And we all have an opinion about it. The film Mission NS shows an unknown side of the company: the struggle behind the scenes to keep passengers happy and satisfied. Stories are constructed for that mission, because stories provide guidance in a world that has become complex and complicated. These are stories that should make the traveler happy, even if the train does not run on time.
Missie NS is a mosaic story from two strongly contrasting worlds. On the one hand, the formal head office where people put their heart and soul into creating a more customer-friendly image and where a film or vlog is made before every meeting to boost the staff's spirits. On the other hand, the workplace, where there is often a completely different reality than the story that those who work there have to convey. A daily, much rawer reality, where haste, anonymity, indifference and dissatisfaction reign. Where many travelers, with earplugs in, seem to be in their own story, ignorant of what is happening around them. Mission NS by director Catherine van Campen is not only about NS, but also about the Netherlands in 2019, where everyone can reinvent themselves every day.
